OT & Gymnastics for Preschoolers - Instructor Springfield College OT Interns and Lucy Spaulding

This class is designed specifically for preschoolers who have recently left early intervention. Children learn to function in a group and work on fine motor skills and calming techniques (heavy work). For gross motor skills, kids will be working with Lucy to learn basic gymnastics moves. Ages 3-6. Sign up by September 13th save $10.00 per class. After September 13 class will be $145.00. No Monday classes on Columbus Day, Oct. 11th.

In this skill development class, students begin to learn the basic gymnastics moves, including somersaults, cartwheels, bridges, handstands and splits. They spend time perfecting each move and using correct form. At the end of the session students perform the moves they have learned for parents and friends. Wednesday Homeschool Program - Instructor Jimmy Ilson
Time: Wednesday, 10:30 am -2:15 pm Price: $165.00
10:30 -11:30 Geometric Pattern Drawing. This is a drawing class that combines movement, eye/hand coordination, and the rendering of flowing geometric patterns. Each class begins with movement exercises that will later be reflected in the children's pattern drawings. This approach to drawing is helpful for children who have difficulty with particular skills including: handwriting, crossing their midline barrier, and balance. It is also a soothing creative process that all children could equally enjoy. Recommended for ages 8-11. Limit 6.
11:30 -12:30 Geometry Class. This is am introduction to Geometry class. Kids discover through artistic processes the connection that exists between mathmatics and the geometric patterns. We study the basic geometric shapes (the circle, square, and triangle) and have an introduction to perimeter and area. Recommended for ages 8 - 11. Limit 6.
12:30 -1:00 Lunch with conversation skills.
1:00 -1:15 Quiet time (bring a book or some other quiet activity)

Growing Up II: Building Peer Relationships - Instructor Jason Litto and Rhonda Ward
Time: Wednesday, 3:30 - 5:00 pm Price: $135.00
We'll start by reviewing personal space and boundaries, then move on to conversational skills such as: how to start a conversation, how to politely join in a conversation, staying on topic, and ending a conversation. We also work on friendship skills such as finding common interests, give and take, and expressing feelings in appropriate ways. Topics such as dating and what is the difference between a friend and a girl/boyfriend will be discussed. Other topics include body awareness and self-esteem. This class lays the groundwork for fulfilling relationships of all kinds in life. Ages 13 and up and completion of Growing Up I (or permission from instructors). Class fee after September 13 - $145.00.
Teen Community Skills - Instructor Julia Concannon
Time: Wednesday, 5:00 - 6:00 pm Price: $75.00
After learning about friendship and conversation skills in Growing Up II, teens get the experience of going out to Whole Foods for dinner. Skills such as choosing what you want for dinner, etiquette for buffett-style dinning, paying, cleaning up after yourself, and choosing your own dessert from the self-serve bakery. While eating, the teens are encouraged and guided to use the conversation starters and friendship skills they have been taught. This class will take place five times per session -September 29, October 13, October 27, November 3, November 17. Pick up will be at Whole Foods. You must be registered in the Growing Up II class on Wednesdays in order to participate in this class.
Come get fit and have a great time playing kickball and flag football. Leslie introduces the rules and techniques of flag football with skill building activities. Kids learn the rules of the game, kicking skills, catching, and throwing skills, as well as team work. This is a 6-week class that runs from September 23 to October 28. Ages 9 -14.

Drama activities are fun, engaging, and help children of all abilities learn skills for life! Through improvisational games and role play students not only enhance verbal skills and communication, but non-verbal communication skills such as facial recognition are also explored and encouraged. Kung Fu - Instructor Spirit of the Heart's - Morgan Kent

Both physical and verbal self-defense martial arts skills are taught with a focus on cooperation, respect, increase self-awareness and self-control. Do you want to know what to do if someone pushes you or threatens your body? Or says something to you that you don't like? Come and learn non-verbal, verbal, and physical self-defense techniques to keep yourself, family and friends aware and secure out there! This class is geared for females only and involves a lot of talking and acting out situations in addition to basic simple physical moves. Marla is a 3rd degree Tae Kwon Do Black Belt and 1st degree Kung Fu Black Belt (also founder of Whole Children's Martial Arts program) and Amanda is a 1st degree Kung Fu Black Belt. Ages 12 and up. Come enjoy an afternoon of bowling at Spare Time in Northampton! Drop off and pick up will be at the bowling alley in Northampton. Parents are asked to stay with children under age 13, teens can be dropped off with prior permission. This is a one-day, two hour event where children of all abilities will experience the thrill of indoor rock climbing. Experienced belayers and Whole Children staff members will be on hand to help the children get the most out of this rocking day. Shoe equipment rentals are included in the price of this class. Teen Holiday Shopping - Instructor Julia Concannon

Choosing 1-2 people to shop for, kids (with help from instructors) come up with ideas for gift giving. Kids are then chaperoned through the mall and guided as to where to buy their gift(s). Children will be encouraged to be as independent as possible in choosing and buying their gift(s). After shopping, it's back to Whole Children for lunch, wrapping presents and making cards.
School Age Gingerbread House Making - Instructor Leslie Rocha

Come join your friends and make a delicious and beautiful gingerbread house to take home. Kids will also work as a team to bake and decorate one big house, which they can eat after they've had lunch brought from home!

Teens bake several treats to be served at the Whole Children Holiday Dance that evening. Of course, they will get to sample what they cook that afternoon with some hot chocolate if they wish! Kids will bring a lunch and have a meal with friends. While their treats are in the oven, kids will decorate a large gingerbread house for the dance.
Join us for our second annual Holiday Dance Party! Semi-formal attire is required, no jeans please. We will have holiday treats, DJ, and Karaoke. For those who don't want to dance we will have plenty of activities including air hockey, Wii and pool.
